I finished my two lovelies…Modern Lovers and Everland. Both were hugely good…hugely entertaining…hugely contrasting…think flesh eating disease in dystopian London/Everland with engaging Peter Pan like characters vs gay foodies in NYC. The food descriptions in Modern Lovers were so delicious! Think artisanal toasted bread…smoosh an avocado half on it with salt, pepper and a splash of olive oil…then plop a free range fried egg on top…thank God I had everything to make it this morning! Now I need to rent a quaint little cottage in Montauk where I can grill some halibut and asparagus and make a peach tart.
Am I overly influenced by the books I read?

I think WAY too many books are compared to Gone Girl! I was just thinking that the other day when I read a book blurb. I have starting avoiding all books that reference Gone Girl in their blurbs.

All it takes is for a book to be super successful and everything will be compared to it…until the next big thing comes along. So now there's a trend of unreliable narrators in books, I assume? I don't read too many adult books these days.

I am ignoring the Gone Girl, etc., references, too, because some books compared to those two are excellent in their own right.
I am eager to read The Children…downloaded my copy this week, along with Most Wanted.

I like a good, roasted vegetable. Man, you read some crazy books. I didn't read Gone Girl; my husband did some time ago and already told me about it and the even crazier movie. No thank you.

I don't think that I read “crazy” books at all. Every one has there own particular taste in reading material. I read what I like to read and I am always interested in other readers' choices.
