OMG!
I am in love with this book!
It is truly every single thing I love in a book. Quirky writing, unique and engaging yet thoroughly dysfunctional characters. However it is the kind of dysfunction that seems fun and harmless at first but the more I read the more I realize that husband and wife Don and Viv are truly messed up. So sad! Don is kind of named after Donald Duck! That’s an entire story in itself!
I love their quirky kids and friends, too. Not sure if I love where the story is headed…kind of due to an amazing horse that Viv is enthralled with…that would be Mercury!
A magnificent horse that will change these lives forever!
Oh my!
I need to read more of Margot Livesy’s books!

Her newer titles are unfamiliar to me…so I thought that I probably hadn't read any of her books…but I kept thinking that I must have. So…I checked Goodreads…and in 2008, I read The House on Fortune Street, and loved it! Don't you love how you can check your reviews and remember books you enjoyed!
I'm not sure about Mercury…the mention of the horse put me off a bit. But maybe the other aspects would overwhelm any horsey stuff. lol.
The Flight of Gemma Hardy looks good.

I think I read and loved The House On Fortune Street, too….the horse aspect bothered me, too, but it's not about the horse…just her compulsions with riding and how it tears her away from who she was…it's good!

I read The Flight of Gemma Hardy a couple of years ago when I read Jane Eyre as it's a sort of modern retelling. Truth be told, I didn't enjoy either well very much.
