Sunday is the only day of the week that Den and I read an actual newspaper. Den just loves that inky feel you get on your fingers from reading a real newspaper. Me? I don’t love it as much as he does and I usually have a soapy wet paper towel near me for inky hand emergencies. But…it’s a tradition that we kind of cherish…Den reads the Philadelphia Inquirer and our local Kennett Paper…I “read” the NYT but mostly because I love the Style section and the Book Review magazine. I love the Book Review because I love that I have already read some of the books just coming out. Most of the more interesting books are always on the sides of each page of the Book Review…not in any of the best selling lists. There is just something comforting about reading the Book Review…jotting down titles…looking up books…I love it!
Last year…there were Sundays when I didn’t feel like reading my paper…Den always left it in my spot on the coffee table next to the sofa. It was always there for me whenever I was ready to read it. Anyway…yesterday there was no NYT…after driving to a few places Den finally found out that the longtime distributor for our area died and there was no one to take his place…so sad. So…I am without my Sunday NYT for a while…
Books…
I just finished this…the third book in this series…A Treacherous Curse…and now I have to read the middle one…I read the first one a while ago. It’s such a fun yet intricate series. It’s fascinating characters are Miss Victoria Speedwell and handsome muscular damaged Stoker…it’s the 1800’s…and they solve mysteries. They are quite an odd couple, too…Victoria loves studying butterflies…handsome damaged Stoker is a sort of naturalist. The writing, the situations, the events…are all really interesting. I love this author’s works. In my head Stoker looks just like Aquaman…without the spikey thing…Stoker often carries capons and smoked oysters in his pockets. Aquaman carries fish. But still…
New books…
Before And Again and The Wolves Of Winter are both from NetGalley. The Girl In Times Square and The Favorite Sister are from Edelweiss. Jessica Knoll’s Luckiest Girl Alive was an interesting book so I am really curious about her new one.

So that’s it! I am still having trouble linking…I am sure it’s my iPad but the days of me blogging from a laptop are nonexistent…I just don’t use a laptop. In fact Den and I both want to get the new iPad Pro that is coming out next year.

I don’t like our local newspaper, but when I did subscribe, it was only on Sundays. I used to love the SF Chronicle when I lived there.
I have The Luckiest Girl alive on Pippa…but haven’t yet read it. I am dreading it, as I don’t know if I’ll like it.
Before and Again looks tempting…and so does The Girl in Times Square.

I forgot about Stoker! It’s been a while since I’ve read the first installment. I love how you and Den have this tradition; it’s cute. My mum pays attention to all book reviews in the paper and in magazines, and even in the Costco flyer. I got Black Witch on my TBR and requested it!

OMG…I live just over the border in Hockessin! So funny when you mentioned Kennett – I don’t expect to run into locals in the blogging world 🙂
I only read the paper on Sundays, too – though sometimes it can take me most of the week to get through it all! Sundays tend to be busy here. We got the Inquirer when we first moved to the area 27 years ago (from New Orleans) but now we get the local DE News-Journal.
And I listen to the NYT Book podcast every week! Second-best to reading the Book Review 🙂

There is something about a newspaper, that is inviting, yet ours disappoint me so I gave them up. I loved The Girl in Times Square and must do a reread, I got turned down for the Barbara Delinksy book which made me sad! Can’t win ’em all.

I know…I get my feelings hurt when I don’t get a book but I was asked to read the Barbara Delinsky book…that’s always nice. But I haven’t read her in ages…so I hope I love it!

Patty I am sure you will enjoy it. I do dislike being turned down by a publisher but really there is a plus side as I can read the book and feel no pressure for a big review, just one of my shorter ones. I am reading The Rejected Writer’s Book Club – maybe there should be a rejected (and dejected) readers’ book club!! LOL.

We used to get the local city paper but let it go several years ago. Like Kathy, I thought I’d miss it but I don’t. So many other ways to get news these days BUT totally understand your love for the Book Review and Style section. I used to love reading the NYT wedding announcements 🙂

We only get real newspapers on Sunday, too, and read online the rest of the week. Sunday only home delivery of NYTimes is available for us in both central NY and SW Florida… maybe in your area, too?
