TV Dilemma Remains A Dilemma?

I just discovered something…I can’t read without the TV on…seriously.  I don’t think I had this kind of a TV addiction before last year…my year of chemo.  I had to have a TV on or else I would think too much about what those chems were doing to my body…this is my excuse.  Last year was the year of the chair that I had to have…the comfy loungey chair that I could sit in and wrap a furry throw around me in and watch TV in and not think in.  It was important to me to not think too much about anything last year.  I accomplished that.  I am under that furry throw but this year I am thinking more…and reading…with the TV on.  Sigh!  Den says just turn it off but I can’t…yet.  Soon?  Maybe!

Book news…I just got a note about this book and it was available at Edelweiss!  A family…not functioning well…yum…and a cookbook?  Even better!

From Amazon…“Wonderful characters, a gorgeous sense of time and place, and elegant storytelling make GO ASK FANNIE an utter delight. The members of this loving, raging, totally compelling family may not like one another all the time, but I adored them all from the first page. Elisabeth Hyde has written a funny, joyous novel, heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once and in the very best ways.” — Laurie Frankel, author of This is How It Always Is

Off to read and then a dentist appointment…yeah!

I always have my TV on…muted, though. But this habit started back in college, and at that time, it was not muted. I watched and studied at the same time. It apparently did not affect my grades, either, as I did well. LOL

Love that cozy furry throw…and Go Ask Fannie looks good. And, no,not going to Edelweiss…GRRR. I’ll wait to buy it.

My mom never turned the TV on until after my dad passed away and she said she turned it on for the same reason – so she wouldn’t have to think too much. I guess TV can be a good thing at the right time!

Can totally see your point over the TV. I couldn’t do it but in a similar situation as yourself now that could happen. Go Ask Fannie looks interesting. Hope the dentist is kind.

My girls got light but warm bathrobes, adult-sized, from my mum who got them from my dad’s cousin’s daughter who had gotten them free from the casino. They love being snuggled up in them.

When my husband was alive the house was full of noise. He was always singing, listening to music, or talking on the phone. After he passed it was so quiet. I couldn’t take it and so I decided to turn the tv on. It’s on all the time.

Hope you enjoy the book! 🙂

Sometimes our reading habits change based on things going on in our lives. I can totally understand the background noise of the tv and the fact that it helped you stop thinking. I often have to turn the tv off because it makes it hard for me to think if I am doing something I need to “think” for or about.

    Good luck at the dentist!

You are so right about reading habits…right now I just want to read nonstop…I go to sleep clutching my Kindle. I think I make myself wake up in the middle of the night just so I can read a few more pages…the dentist was actually fine. He’s a huggable dentist.

I got the note about Go Ask Fannie too! It is happily on my Kindle now.

The TV thing. My daughter has to have it on no matter where she is in the house. She leaves it on downstairs even though she is upstairs. She said it makes her feel cozy. I am constantly turning it off because I like peace and quiet and don’t want my electric bill to be nuts but she always turns it back on. White noise. It can be comforting. I guess that is why you need it on too.
