It is a gloomy Wednesday…that’s for sure…it’s hot…muggy…and there is no sun in sight. And…it’s going to start raining! Again! But…it seems to be good weather for all of our plants. Den planted zinnias and daisies in our cutting garden. We used to have tons of perennials everywhere but somehow they have mostly disappeared…along with a few other things. It’s a mystery…I also had a green iron frog in my cutting garden that was my grandmother’s…we have been looking for that for years. And my little stone blocks that are always by our front door…gone! Den says he thinks he moved them to the garage when the door was painted but now we can’t find them…anywhere! I loved those blocks! The big difference between Den and me is that I have a difficult time tossing cherished items…he does not. I have pieces from my mom all over my house and Den’s mom, too. If a cherished plate or cup breaks…I tuck the pieces into planters or jars…I have an old Ball Jar that was my aunt’s…filled with buttons from my grandmother’s house. I have another one filled with seashells and a broken plate from Den’s mom.
Am I weird? Do you do that, too? Please say that you do. I have an old satin bed jacket that was my mom’s from her shower. I have my grandmother’s linen napkins. Everything is tucked in baskets or drawers. The napkins are still ironed by my mom!
I don’t want to be weird…it’s just comforting to have these things around me.
I have always loved my curvy front walk! I think we need more flowers! I love my horsy hitching post…it’s all rusty and shabby. It’s perfect…Den wants to paint it to get the rust away. I love the rust! And…the basket filled with lobelia? It’s falling apart but I love it…I can’t throw it away! A new basket would not be the same…at all!
Reading and loving this book…
I am off to read!
