I am afraid…really afraid…Den is out shopping ahead of the storm and I am afraid of the amount of doubles he may bring home. He has called me three times already from the store. We went over the list this morning. He told me to text if we needed anything for this Cabbage And Beef Soup he wants to make but he forgot to look at the text! Yikes! We are now in the bread aisle together painstakingly going over organic breads. We just exited the noodle aisle and there were so many choices that I have a headache. I haven’t been going out to small stores because of all the coughing sneezing sniffling people that are everywhere. I wanted to go to Trader Joe’s but Den determined that the store was too small and I will be too exposed.
But on the other hand why do we have this frenzied need to shop when a storm is predicted? We may have strong winds on Sunday which means no power. We may have snow and ice. Or…we may have nothing! If we don’t have power we need sandwich stuff so today I am roasting a chicken and making Ina Garten’s Chicken Soup…thus the noodle decision making episode. We can heat soup on the grill? Den has his heart set on making that cabbage soup for Sunday…whoopsie…another phone call…there is a sale on Haagen Daz ice cream…what flavor do I want? Can I just tell you how sweet Den is? Even when he is annoying!
This is the one pot Hamburger Cabbage Soup from The Kitchn. I want to make this no knead farmhouse bread from Julia Frey’s Vikalinka Blog. I have great plans for a Sunday with potentially no power!
Books!
Reading this…it came to me as a surprise and I think I like it but I am only about 12% into it.
I want to read these next…if we have tons of ice and snow this is a chiller mystery weekend.
Stay warm and dry!
See you on Monday…hopefully we will have power!

Good luck with the storm. They’re telling us to expect 5″ unless we’re near Lake Michigan which we are. There will be lake effect snow after the first snow. I’m just planning to stay in all weekend. Enjoy the yummy food and books!

We’ve had rainstorms…and in the nearby mountains, there are snowstorms. Knock wood about power outages.
I hope you enjoy the weekend.
I have Nine Perfect Strangers, but haven’t even started it…I am afraid of not liking it. Sigh.
Have a great weekend.

I know what you mean about Nine Perfect Strangers. It got far from stellar reviews but so far it’s been ok.

Everyone shops before storms here too but I don’t worry about food too much since we have a gas stove. Stay safe and warm!

In Nova Scotia, we shop for #stormchips Honest, we do. You can google it.
And we’re getting the same storm as you, perhaps a day later, so . . . . 🙂

Stormchips? I will be googling. The problem here where we live is we are close to beaches so we never know how much snow or any that we will get. And everyone fusses over it.

I like cabbage in soups, like tomato based soups with beef in them.
I think the grated cheese is was I remember from a previous post you told us.
A gas stove is what my brother and I want to get when this stove needs to be replaced.

Our stove is electric but I am not even certain why. Everywhere we’ve lived I have had an electric flat top stove.

Hmm will be interested in what you think of Nine Perfect Strangers, a little wacky I thought! Ah everyone is talking snow – and some of it looks so beautiful, I was just thinking while its there it covers everything! Which can be nice!

It is nice when it snows…especially if you are fully stocked and can stay in. I keep reading it but I am not sure why.

I think you read the New York Times, did you see that “Late in the Day” was featured on the cover of the book review. I hope the snow storm isn’t too bad. Have a good rest of the weekend.
