So…Friday is when I usually write this post but this Friday we went out to lunch…then went looking for a Santa…and then since chemo makes me carsick, too, I took Dramamine and fell asleep…as soon as we got home. We went to our fave place for lunch but it’s on windy country roads in the midst of horse country. It was raining and the millions of creeks that are next to all of our country roads threatened flooding and we had to take alternate roads to get home. Yikes! Den was calm…I was nervous and sleepy. Plus…nurses were calling us because I have a low magnesium count and I have to take three magnesium pills rather than two. And my white blood cell count is low again and I have to be careful…no movies, malls or hugs…no lox, no caviar and no blue cheese…all staples in my diet…teasing!
When I woke up Den was cooking. He made polenta which we love with sauce and cheese. Den is a cook who follows directions carefully. Apparently the polenta directions said to turn it out of a bowl so that’s what he did! Slice and serve polenta! Yum!
In an effort to simplify Christmas this year we did things by days…one day for cards, one day for mailing stuff, one day for food shopping…and we decided that we would just have Santa get each other one special gift. We usually buy each other lots of things but chemo kind of put life in perspective…again. I just did not have the energy to be as creative as I usually am. But I realized that I bought both of us lots of stuff…I just declared all the stuff I bought non presents. So there were things arriving every day this week but I didn’t have to wrap them. And we each have our one special thing for Christmas Day…sigh!
This cookie was in the NYT Magazine today…it’s one giant spicy cookie. I think I will make it tomorrow!
And we are making Union Square Cafe Bar Nuts this afternoon. These are so delicious…sweet, spicy…with a hint of rosemary. Yum! They are so easy to make!
Reading? Nothing…I keep starting and stopping and getting distracted! I hate when that happens!

I like the idea of things arriving every day, and not having to wrap anything! I hate wrapping, so nowadays, I just do gift cards. LOL. But receiving things in the mail would work, too.
I’ve never had Polenta, but it does look so tempting.
Enjoy your holiday week!

Polenta is totally delicious…even with eggs for breakfast!

I hope your levels come up to acceptable – especially since you’re giving up favorite foods. The polenta intrigues me. Good idea on the gift giving.
I hope the rain has stopped. We won’t have a white Christmas this year. And I’m okay with that.

Polenta is delicious with fried eggs, sauce, even plain with butter. Bob’s Red Mill is the best! Once it firms…you can sautée it!

That polenta looks really good turned out from its bowl. Something though I never really eat, I am so boring when it comes to food. Sounds like you have Christmas planned well. Wishing you and Den and the girls of course a very peaceful and enjoyable Christmas. The reading mojo will return!

All those chemo side effects are a pain but they’re gonna be worth it in the long run. A low key Christmas sounds wonderful – as long as the two of you are together. We’ve got our nephew here so Vance is staying with us too – I love having “the boys” under our roof. Merry Christmas to you and Den!

I told Santa’s Helper that Santa didn’t have to get me everything on my list but I got most of it. It was hard to shop for the husband; I ended up buying his two last minute. I haven’t eaten polenta like that. Trader Joe’s used to (maybe still does) have a frozen mix of polenta and carrots; we used to buy that.

They do…I love it but Bob’s Red Mill is too good…with sauce…with eggs or just plain with cheese and butter.
