It Must Be Us!

While checking in to our hotel Friday my husband was literally held hostage by a 94 year old gentleman…in a matter of seconds I heard fragments of stories about the war, he gave Den his card, and wanted him to come to his room to hear even more war stories!

The elderly gentleman was very sweet, his daughter thanked us for being patient and kind to him but all we were trying to do was check in!

Then later…literally moments after being seated at our k.d.lang concert…I mean we just sat down…the people next to us began chatting to us…I mean we did not even have a moment to ourselves…and we knew that the man was in a horrific accident and he described every injury and surgery, we learned where they lived , that they took a bus to Manhattan, he could never drive again, their room was comped, the woman won $800.00 on penny slots and their son followed the poker circuit.

Is it us? Do we look like we need to know everything about the strangers around us?

We love people but we also love just us…we love to sit and talk to each other…we don’t look around and try to find people to talk to…we are content…and yet we seem to attract talkers…sharers…by the dozens!

What is it about us?

I think I need to practice looking distant and aloof…like Lucy!

Happy Sunday!

I can tell you why this happened…because both you and Den are so 'prim and proper' and probably look and act 'sympathetic' to strangers that feel they can tell you their life story…and then some!
My daughter Lora is the same way. Every place she goes the elderly always detain her, and most of the time very strange people! Funny thing that no-one stops to tell me their life stories…maybe I look 'standoffish' or aloof to them!
Anyway, I enjoyed reading your post, as always!

Lucy wants you to pick her up, both of you face the mirror and you practice making “Lucy” faces. Yup. That's right. That's what she told me to tell you. Get started…Now…before the next outing…LOL…

My husband is this way. Everywhere we go I end up having to rescue him. He has a kind face and people are always talking to him about something. The kids and I laugh while on vacation because of all the random conversations with housekeeping, the shuttle driver, the tour guide, etc. Me? I must look hassled or pissed off all the time because no one pulls that stuff with me.
