Well…we are moving into really warm weather for the next few days. More 90’s, even more humidity, more rain. Ick…ick…ick…
I am still trying to calm down for my oncology appt on Wednesday but it just isn’t possible. I am the kind of person who likes control and I have no control. In my head the list of awful outcomes keeps growing and yet I am doing everything I can to stay positive. But it’s kind of not working. Sigh! That positive attitude is just a bit elusive right now.
I am reading one of the most beautiful books I have read in a long time…this one. It’s one part murder mystery and the other part the life of a very young girl…Kya…who has seen her mama put on her alligator shoes and walk away from a brutal marriage. One by one her brothers and sisters leave until she is the only one left with her mean, drunken, gambling father. He is rarely at the shack where they live. Kya is left with nothing and yet she manages to take care of herself…it’s the South of the 50’s when prejudice was a part of daily life and people were mean…really mean spirited! When Kya tries to go to school shoeless…she has no shoes…she is made fun of and decides not to go back. She spends her days fishing and scrapping for food. She yearns to learn to read and know what number comes after 29…I love this book…even it’s sad parts…it’s simply lovely…
More new books!
I wanted this book so badly and thanks to St. Martin’s Press it came in the mail!
And a few more books from NetGalley…
I need to get back to my book…it’s addictive!

So many lovely looking books! I hope you enjoy them all, and that you find positive moments within those pages.
Most of these are unfamiliar to me, except Where the Crawdads Sing and The Girl He Used to Know, which have been showing up on blogs, and are now on my wish list.
Thanks for sharing!

We just had that heat and humidity now it’s fog and rain (just a heads up for you). I hope we both love Go To My Grave – I’ll probably read it in October because it sounds kind of scary. I’ll look up the Cole book – nice cover!
Sending hugs. When do you get test results?

We’re back to heat and humidity, too. They’re saying this has been the most humid summer on record here – yuck! Where the Crawdads Sing sounds lovely and I also want to read The Girl He Used to Know. I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow…
