Well…we were so full of sun and blue skies on Monday but it just didn’t last. Yesterday it was rainy and dark and there was no sign of the sun. We walked outside at our park on Monday…a little rough for me but it felt so good! We thought we had a little window to zip to the park yesterday but that didn’t happen. But I think I appreciate sunny days even more when they are few and far between!
I truly think I am going to shelve The Favorite Sister. I read more reviews and readers either loved it or totally hated it. I saw both one star reviews that said it was awful and five star reviews that said it was confusing in the beginning but got really great halfway through. I don’t like being confused while reading a book and I don’t want to wait for it to get better. I hate doing this but I think in this case I am justified.
If you encounter a book like this…what do you do?
I liked this one…family secrets…a food truck specializing in gourmet grilled cheese and lots of interesting Milwaukee references…fish fries, Wauwatosa, Polish flats and Polish caramels wrapped in yellow and white papers…I have to check with my sister in law again. These things fascinate me!
I could not resist this middle grade book…it was easy to start it and read chapter after chapter. I love quirky middle grade characters…in this case Van…the smallish son of a famous opera singer. He starts to follow a mysterious disappearing girl. And…the places they go? Mysterious, funky and magical!
I think I will start this one, too…just to even things out…
Off to read! The sound of lawn crews is everywhere! Everyone is trying to play catch up with their lawns!

Ooh, I hate the sound of the lawn crew, but things look good afterwards.
I passed on Jessica Knoll’s books.
Enjoy the new Emily Griffin book.

The only time I really push through a book that is not working for me, is if it’s a book club book or I promised the author personally, that I’d review it.

We’ve had rain for a week and it’s in the forecast for the next 10 days so the lawns around here are a mess too.
I don’t give up on a book very often but feel like I should do it more.

I am the same way about finishing books…that’s why not finishing bothers me so much!

I usually give a book up to 25%; if I’m not feelin’ it by then…good-bye. The Ruth R. book looks good.

Patty, this is my first time commenting (enjoy your blog!) but I just had to let you know that My Favorite Sister was a DNF for me. I gave it to 16% and couldn’t read another word, and posted a “review” on NG explaining why. I too feel like I should do that more often instead of slogging through a book I’m not enjoying.
